Sarkodie for Big Brother Africa 8?

Sarkodiebba
Call it gossip, whistle blowing or eavesdropping, but we can say it here that Ghana’s Sarkodie (also known as Michael Kwesi Owusu Addo) is likely to be the sole representative at this year’s season 8 Big Brother Africa television reality show.

It seems covered for now, but a closed source has revealed to us that since the show is full of unpredictability here and there, organisers may this year repeat a similar ‘Stargame’ dubbed show.

If everything go well, then we may be seeing a lot of other celebrities from other African countries ranging from the likes of former Big Brother UK entrant Makosi together with Uganda’s Desire Luzinda and Jackie (Obessions), South Africa’s controversial socialite Kanyi Mbau, Nigeria’s Iyanya and Dammy Krane, Kenya’s Shaffie Weru and Oj Oballa and Kenyan model Vera Sidika.

Big Brother Africa Season 8 has currently finished audition in all participating countries and contestants are set to be announced next month before the show starts.

Should all things go right, then the
Obidiponbidi from Ghana should be hoisting high the flag of Ghana in far away South Africa.

Accra Mall bans sex in their toilet!

Accramall2

It is not a joking matter as the management of the Accra Mall has decided to prosecute all offenders who come to their toilet to wash their kitchen items, change their clothes, buy & sell (only God knows what they are buying and selling), stand on the toilet bowl, brush their teeth, smoke and wait for this…have SEX.

Call this the seven (7) laws of the Accra Mall’s management and you will not be wrong.

Come to think of it, where there is no law, there is no crime and where there is no crime, there is no punishment therefore that could explain the recent position of the management.

It means that if that the law has always been there from the beginning it would have restrained people’s actions and hence no need for this development.

It may be funny but what attracted us to the piece was that of all places in the world, people can actually choose the toilet as their pampampam ground-at least it’s written as the sixth law there.

Can we say that those involved who are already in a relationship just want to experience another atmosphere? After all, a romantic date at the mall could end up in adventure, possibly we cannot rule out any option here, anything can happen.

It may be funny, but we must understand that sometimes problems don't require a solution to solve them; instead they require maturity to outgrow them.

See the warning here Accramall3

Is ‘something’ juicy up SALA’s sleeves?

Salajor(3)

We try to break the news first hand. That’s our job and we shall not keep our mouth shut at revealing juicy pieces. Call it ‘gossip’, at least that has always been our prayer, that our stars should become branded brands, make more money and produce great songs and movies.

We hear that the Paradise Entertainment first lady-SALA is about to launch herself big with the announcement of a new package which we can’t reveal so fast. At least let’s play around it for a while.

A credible source hinted that the juice is around an international brand (name withheld for now), but all we can say is that it has to do with ladies’ hair. Are we giving too much for now? The deal we hear is in the range of thousands of dollars and it will last for a while.

According to our source, the reason for picking Sala is because they (the international brand) need an ultimate role model in showbiz from Ghana. So there you have it, Sala’s name was picked.

The singer’s management will not want to comment anything for now but if our sources are anything to go by, then her current trips outside Ghana to the USA may send some kind of positive signals that it’s a ‘yes’.

With so many celebrities clutching big brands, life is surly good like alugutugue for the entertainment industry and with more and more celebrities becoming brand ambassadors, we can’t wait to tell the world of the spirited flair embedded in Ghana.

Recently Sala premiered her club banger-Today na Today with an intention to create setting for implausible interactive discourse between her fans and herself. The song was produced by Danny Beatz.

We wish her good luck as she becomes one of Ghana’s brand ambassadors.

Yvonne Nelson dumps Ice Prince for John Dumelo

Yvonnekillsiceice

Day in, day out, actress Yvonne Nelson will stop at nothing to tickle us with her emotions. Love or hate her for that, that’s her persona.

She loves to be in a mood best described by her alone.

This week is starting on a very high note for the award winning actress cum producer who has another movie coming out early this year.

This time she isn’t talking about the movie but she is hitting it hard at one certain Ice Prince of Chocolate City in Nigeria.

Over the weekend we brought to you this, read Yvonne & John, what’s going on? , and many of her fans rained fire and brimstone on the news as been a ‘friendly gesture’, but what more can we say after the actress broke the silence by herself?

Yvonne who is currently on a movie location in New York with actor John Dumelo took to her Twitter page to dish her real boyfriend, Nigerian rapper Ice Prince.

In the twitter update yesterday, she said “Aboki (referring to Ice Prince)…. apparently John is my boyfriend he’s gonna kill you.. you don’t wanna see his aboki”.

If we choose to say, “this means nothing”, then was this piece, read Yvonne Nelson & Iyanya doing ‘kukere’ love? , false or a ‘friendly gesture’?

Black Magic in the Ghanaian music industry

Castrocas

It sounds so funny to me when some celebrities upon receiving some awards at various awards ceremonies, give thanks to God when deep in their hearts, they know they rather ignored God and consulted some fetish priests for juju.

I believe it would be very childish and mischievous on the part of any person to conclude that indeed the successes chalked by most of our celebrities can all be attributed to God.

It's without doubt that some celebrities depend on powers of darkness. Sometime back Hiplife artiste, Castro was reported to have gone for juju to help enhance his musical career.

That news was quite surprising because Castro has been very successful on the music scene and there wasn't the need for him to use juju.

The news alleged that he had gone for the juju from a powerful female spiritualist at Madina Zongo. Having been able to go through all the rituals, Castro was reported to have personally made an undertaking to reward the spiritualist with a cash amount of GH¢500 in addition to other assorted items if the juju worked in his favor.

When Castro was quizzed about the issue, he said though the issue was true, he intimated that it was a friend of his who did it on his behalf. Castro also revealed that it was his friend who introduced him to the spiritualist but admitted that the rituals were done with his consent. Quite importantly, Castro denied that the rituals done were juju. He said the place was more of a Christian church than a fetish shrine.

In the course of writing this piece, I spoke to so many musicians. All the musicians I spoke to made it categorically clear that most musicians of today really use juju.

I was told some of the main reason for using juju is to help the artiste become very popular, get more hit tracks, become wealthy, get more awards, gain favor in the eyes of the general public and most importantly, as a source of protection from other artistes on the music scene who may try to abruptly end their careers.

I was stunned to the bone. If some musicians are able to reveal that their fellow musicians use juju, who am I to doubt it.

Hip life duo (name withheld), also believe that the biggest challenge in the music industry in Ghana is the use of supernatural powers or black magic, locally called 'juju', by some musicians to promote their album.

According to the duo, because some upcoming musicians and some old musicians are not talented enough, they go for juju to protect themselves and destroy any musician who they see as a threat.

Why KECHE may not win the 2013 VGMA Song of the Year

Kechejoor
The artistes need the money to survive the struggling industry.

Event companies also need to satisfy the loyalty of their sponsors for continuous business and sustenance of their events.

How do we combine the two and even we are able to combine that, who will suffer the consequence in this our time. Let`s see what we can get off out this discourse.

Until NDC used the “idey bee keke” catch phrase for the campaign in the last general elections, everybody in Ghana knew that “idey bee keke” was a thing for management and customers of MTN:

Everywhere you go. The latest we are hearing from their camp is a new catch phrase called “TALK IS TASTY”.

Talk about tasty in Ghanaian entertainment media and the only thing which comes to the minds of people is “Alugutugue”, sung and performed by hip life duo Keche-medaase.

In Keche’s song, they chanted “LIFE IS TASTY LIKE ALUGUTUGUE”. Thanks be to God, the song became an instant hit and it has received rotations on radio and television stations. What it means is that

MTN is trying to steer clear of the political game of “idey bee keke” and the ramifications likely to follow should NDC lose next elections in the country. (Just my assumptions please. Don't get it twisted people)

Knowing very well the business rivalry in this country, especially between the mobile telecommunications, it is clear that if care is not taken by the management of Keche, their hit track “Alugutugue” might not sail through the category VODAFONE SONG OF THE YEAR. What even makes it herculean is the fact that the category comes with a Vodafone name attached to it.

Now, let`s do this logical conclusion of what is likely to ensue now that the guys from Spider Lee Entertainment are already enjoying the deal from MTN. Do you think it will be possible that a Vodafone song of the year might be a song which has been used by MTN in their radio and TV commercial?

My straight answer is a big no without any apology, fear or favour for either Charter House or Spider Lee Entertainment.

Now to the Keche duo, it`s better you start taking consolation from the money you are still enjoying from the MTN deal whiles forgetting about winning the Vodafone song of the year because that is mission impossible.

With the best Group of the year where the two were also nominated for possible wins, their MTN cash can be used to do some voting and am sure all things being equal, they can clinch that title from say R2Bees or VIP.

Mind you, this is just our opinion; it might change on the day of the awards; who knows.

Nigerian Senate President denies presenting US$50,000 car to 2Face and wife

Nigerian Senate President denies presenting US$50,000 car to 2Face and wife
The 2013 Corvette sports car presented to 2Face Idibia and Annie Macaulay

After news went viral over the weekend that Nigerian Senate President, David Alechenu Bonaventure Mark presented 2Face Idibia and his wife, Annie Macaulay a two-door 2013 Corvette sports car as their wedding gift, he has denied the reports.

The sports car, priced at about US$50,000, was part of gifts the couple received at their star-studded wedding at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Friday, March 22.

Although the card at the rear of the car read: “WEDDING GIFT FROM SENETOR DAVID MARK TO TUFACE & ANNIE”, a Special Adviser to the senator has said the gift did not come from David Mark.

Kola Ologbondiyan, who also handles media and publicity for the senator, in a statement released Monday said, “Senator Mark did not visit Dubai for Tuface's wedding rather, he attended the 128th Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) conference currently holding in Quito, Ecuador.”

According to him, the senator, who hails from Tuface’s state, was also not represented at the wedding.

“It is also instructive to state that the President of the Senate, Senator Mark, did not make a car donation of any kind to Tuface before departing Nigeria for Ecuador. Neither did he purchase nor send any car to Dubai as a wedding gift for the musician or his wife,” Mr. Ologbondiyan stated.

Who presented the gift?
Nigerian Senate President denies presenting US$50,000 car to 2Face and wife
Although the card bears the senator's name, he says he has no knowledge of the gift

“Who made the donation on behalf of the President of the Senate?” he quizzed and added that, “It is therefore a puerile lie for anybody to state that Senator Mark bought a Ferrari car worth N47m for Tuface. The allegation is wicked, ridiculous and irresponsible.”

During 2Face Idibia and Annie Macaulay’s traditional wedding, on Friday, March 8 in Eket, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, who hails from the bride’s state, also presented them with two expensive SUVs.

That gift attracted a huge public outrage.

8 year-old South African groom speaks on his 61 year-old bride

8 year-old South African groom speaks on his 61 year-old bride
8 year old Sanele Masilela and wife, Helen Shabangu

Remember the story of an 8 year-old boy who got married to a 61 year-old woman in South Africa to “make the ancestors happy”? {In case you missed it, click herehttp://www.rhodiesworld.com/index.php/gists/item/1198-an-eight-year-old-schoolboy-ties-the-knot-with-a-woman-aged-61}

Although their wedding shocked many people across the world, the couple and their families who see nothing wrong with the wedding have evidently moved on and are enjoying their “married life”.

The school boy, Sanele Masilela got married to Helen Shabangu after his grandfather contacted him from beyond the grave telling him that he needed to wed. He married Helen in accordance with the wishes of his dead ancestor, and his family provided Helen with £500 and paid a further £1,000 for the celebration.

Daily Mail UK recently caught up with Sanele who admitted that since the wedding, he has begun to feel like a married man. “The day was great and it was exactly what I had imagined it would be like. My friends thought it was really funny that I was getting married but I do now feel like a husband,” he was quoted as saying.

Although the couple do not live together, Helen is often invited to have dinner with him at the family’s home. Meanwhile, Sanele has gone back to his life and continues to enjoy school and playing football with his friends.

Speaking on how he got the alleged message from his late grandfather, he said the deceased contacted him through a picture of his mother’s wedding.

“We have a special bond because I am named after him. He said he had seen the picture and felt sad that he had never been able to have a white wedding of his own so he asked me to get married.” He concluded by saying “I chose Helen because I love her.”

Helen, a mother of five who has already been married for 30 years also defended the ceremony saying, “I know the story went out all over the world and it’s great that other countries have been able to learn about our culture and our ancestors.

What we did was not wrong. It’s just our culture. When the ancestors ask something, we do what they say. I don’t think other people understand that. I know the ancestors are happy now because we are all alright and everything seems better and greater. The whole family is much happier than we’ve ever
been.”

There are 207 job areas in the movie industry – David Dontoh

David Dontoh
Ghanaian movie industry stakeholders are not relenting on their calls to business moguls, banks and governments give some attention to their industry.

They believe giving the industry some serious concentration will not only make it grow and improve the quality of movie production in Ghana but also go a long way to lessen the stress on the national economy.

Veteran actors David Dontoh and Akorfa Ejeani Asiedu reiterated the call on TV Africa, saying the movie industry had 207 job areas.

“The last time we checked, we had about 207 job areas” David Dontoh said.

Even though they did not enumerate the job areas, the movie industry employs actors, directors, cinematographers, costume designers, art directors, makeup artists, production managers, journalists, accountants, drivers and a host of them.

Some other concerns about government supporting the movie industry were also raised.

Meanwhile, a lecture at the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) stated that the industry stakeholders should be cautious of how they sought government intervention.

According to him, if government were given a total control of the movie industry, it could rather use it for political advantage and dictate to independent filmmakers, which should not be so.

He urged government to endeavor to create an enabling environment for the industry to flourish.

According to him, the eighth paragliding festival dubbed ‘Okwawu 2013’ is expected to take off on March 29 to April 1, 2013.

He however noted that the road network from Nkwakwah to Etibie was not in its best shape, but assured that the District Assembly was working around the clock to put the road in good shape.

Sonnie Badu blasts event organizers

Sonniebababadu
Gospel artiste Sonnie Badu isn’t too enthused about how event organizers pay huge sums of money to foreign acts to perform in Ghana.

In series of tweets, he’s explained why he thinks it’s wrong for those killer sums to be paid, suggesting that the practice is almost equal to mental “slavery”.

“And those African who pay outsiders huge sums of money well done! It really shows that u have not been delivered from slavery. Have u ever seen them invite an African and paid the money you give to them!! Wake up!! They don’t even want to snap pictures with u. Shame. Our African mindset is so sad. There is no way on this earth that foreigners will pay Africans the kind of monies we pay them in African. Yet when they show up, u are not allowed 2 come near them can’t take pictures, they won’t do interviews but guess what that what we like. And after the show they leave quickly! Ha ha ha what a joke!!” he ridiculed

“They don’t even play African songs on their radios but u play theirs free and then u charge the poor boy struggling! What is wrong with us? No matter how much u spend on a foreign artist it won’t change their mind about u… Some still think Africa is a zoo loooooool. “It’s the mindset and greed. One man wants it all,” he said.

Badu’s comments came in the wake of recent debates on just how much American act Chris Brown was paid to perform in Ghana. An uncontrolled rumor mill that suggested he was paid something in the region of a million dollars has got most people talking.

Gospel musicians angry at MUSIGA… threaten to boycott activities

Giftytyosie
The few gospel musicians who were very active in the activities of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) have threatened to boycott anything that has to do with the union henceforth.

Flex newspaper’s investigations prove that, almost all the gospel musicians who attended the week long programme are very angry with MUSIGA and have decided to take actions against the union.

Grace Ashy, Bernice Ansah, Cecilia Marfo, Nicholas Omane Acheampong, Supt. Kofi Sarpong, OJ, Soul Winners, Tagoe Sisters, Gifty Osei, Elder Ernest, Abaawa Connie and the likes are all livid and feel disrespected by some treatment meted out to them by MUSIGA.

The gospel musicians took this decision during the first ever music week celebration organized by MUSIGA last week. The program which was full of information, education and entertainment enjoyed the patronage of most musicians from the various genres of music we have in the country. But according to the gospel musicians, the organizers of the program treated them badly.

Speaking to Gifty Osei who is the current Best Gospel Artiste of the year as far as Ghana Music Awards is concerned, she revealed to Flex newspaper that, after the program, the gospel musicians have come to the realization that, MUSIGA as a union does not respect or recognize Gospel musicians. From the start of the program to the end of it, they justified their ill intentions for the gospel musicians.

“Can you imagine, MUSIGA refusing to give recognition to the gospel music genre which is the largest music genre in the country? They never promoted or recognized gospel music in any of the brochures they printed not to talk of giving the gospel music genre a platform to also show what it had. All they did was to give all the attention to hip life music, high life and reggae music. We even threatened to have boycott the 6th March performance but we were convinced by our chairman Rev. Thomas Yawson to show up but at the end, we were all disappointed for showing up. Come and see the way we were been maltreated like people who are hungry, as if we were children” Gifty Osei stated.

“A hip lifer comes and they allow him to perform with his or her choice of instrumentalists but gospel musicians were treated differently. The organizers dictated to us like we were kids. A big sum of money was paid to the secular musicians and they gave peanuts to gospel musicians. Now we have realized that, until we rise up and fight for our rights, we won’t be respected or recognized in the industry. And they will continue to treat us bad anytime. We the gospel musicians who attended the week long program and those who were even allowed to perform on the 6th March have decided to boycott whatever that has to do with MUSIGA until they promise to show us respect. We have for all these years shown a lot of commitments to MUSIGA but we have realized that, they only want to use us when they need numbers for any business transactions and when it comes to where we can also benefit, then they ignore us” Gifty Osei lamented.

Uti Nwachukwu Tweets Pix With Lady To Clear Rumour On Alleged Homo?

Former Big Brother Africa (BBA) winner, Uti Nwachukwu has posted a picture of himself and a lady in bed.
The TV presenter has been in South Africa after he attended the just concluded AfricaMagic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) held in Lagos.
Before now, there have been an alleged gay practice between Uti and his best friend, Alex Ekubo.
It is believed that Uti posted the picture to clear the air on the rumour that he can't be seen around women, which has mostly formed the basis of the alleged homosexual rumour.
No definite lady has been romantically linked with Uti. The first that almost arose was with Beverly Naya, which the actress later vehemently denied.

Tonto Dike Imposter Fools Ghanaian Media

After Ghana's dancehall king Samini released his 'azonto' track which is a cover of Nigerian duo P-Square's 'Alingo' track; there were lot of controversies immediately. Thus, the song was tagged as a diss to the duo's 'Alingo' track.
The song generated lots of controversies in both countries as citizens threw insults on each other via social media networks twitter and facebook.
Surprisingly, there were news about Nigerian controversial actress Tonto Dike involving herself in this issue.
Tonto was reported to have attacked Samini over his 'alingo' diss track on twitter with I.D. @tontoTEEdike. The first tweet of this mentioned I.D. was synchronized to the actress' facebook page to twitter. @tontoTEEdike with over 34,000, @tontodike2 also with about 4000 followers and @tontolet with over 170,000 followers are the twitter handles bearing the name of the actress.

Upon checks by NigeriaFilms.Com, the original twitter I.D for the actress is @tontolet with 170,393 followers which makes @tontoTEEdike handle an imposter. After seeing Samini retweeeting the insults lashed on him by the said imposter (@tontoEEdike), we checked the official handle of the actress (@tontolet) but it didn't have any tweet talking about Samini's 'alingo' diss. Surprisingly, some insults were directed to the official handle @tontolet but there was no reply and as at now, the actress has not come out to clear the air.
Not long ago, Tonto was said to have been in a battle with Ghanaian sultry actress Yvonne Nelson over musician Iyanya. The said fight also happened via twitter with the two actress creating new accounts. Yvonne later came out to deny the handle and disclosed it as an imposter but Tonto kept silent about it

Another Musician Angry At The Board

Gospel singer Nicholas Omane Acheampong of ‘Zaphanat Panea’ fame has expressed his displeasure at the organizers of the Ghana Music Awards and challenged the criteria with which they compiled the nomination list for this year’s awards.

His song ‘Zaphanat Panea’ has become one of the most popular songs in Ghana and bagged five nominations for the Music Awards this year but the musician insists he does not qualify for one of the categories and should have also been nominated for three others.

“It has become clear that the organizers do not respect those of us who do gospel music.

When did you ever hear of a gospel artiste winning the Artiste of the year?

Does it mean those of us who sing gospel music do not have what it takes to win that category?

Meanwhile, it is gospel music that is selling and we play more shows than the other genres yet they do not take us serious.

“I know I deserve nomination for Best Song Writer of the Year, Artiste of the Year and Album of the Year yet ‘Zaphanat Panea’ is missing in all these categories,” Nicholas Omane Acheampong told NEWS-ONE.

He also passed some rather interesting comments on his colleague gospel singer Cwesi Oteng in relation to the music awards.

Below are excerpts of the interview:

At least you have the nominations.

True but I expected to be nominated for the Best Song Writer of the Year, Artiste of the Year and Album of the Year.

‘Zaphanat Panea’ album is the most sold album of the year under review and I am talking about 2012.

As I speak, we have sold over 70,000 copies and the impact is so huge. You know this yourself.

Because of the grace of God on my song, we now have ‘Zaphanat Panea’ cloths, ‘Zaphanat Panea’ haircuts, ‘Zaphanat Panea’ bags and ‘Zaphanat Panea’ movies.

Yes, some people are using the name of my song to do movies.

I had to call a movie producer from Kumasi, his name is ODK and I asked him why he is using intellectual property without my consent. He came to salute and offer something.

Even the President of Ghana says he is called ‘Zaphanat Panea’.

Yes the president has taken my song as his nickname so what else do they want before they know ‘Zaphanat Panea’ is very popular?

Why do you deserve Artiste of the Year?

Why not? I am an artiste with an image, an accepted brand and a following.

‘Zaphanat Panea’ has rocked more shows than some of the names they have nominated.

Apart from my regular paid-for shows, at almost all major churches, crusades, lunching and Christian programmes, I have performed on over 40 major shows all over the country.

This is the list and ‘Zaphanat Panea’ is the best crowd-pulling song.

If you don’t believe me, follow me outside and see what would happen and you would know that the spirit of ‘Zaphanat Panea’ is in control.

Cwesi Oteng

Go to the market and ask for Cwesi Oteng’s album. You would either not get it, or find it in very few stores, yet he was nominated for Artiste of the Year and Album of the Year.

But you were also nominated for Gospel Album of the Year

Master, let me tell you the truth. If both Cwesi Oteng and ‘Zaphanat Panea’ are competing for Gospel Album of the Year but Cwesi Oteng is also competing for overall Album of the Year, what do you expect to happen? Meanwhile, ‘Zaphanat Panea’ is the most patronized album ever.

I am the Executive Producer of the song and I know what I am talking about. You can go out there and compare ‘Zaphanat Panea’ to ‘Mercy Project’ and tell me which is selling.

What is this? Album of the Year should have more than two hit songs.

But Ghanaians do not like the truth so I would stop talking. I just feel that when someone deserves commendation, we should not confuse the public.

You also have a problem with your nomination for Producer of the Year because you are not the Technical Producer. I am happy you said Technical Producer. I am the producer of the album but there is a technical producer who actually worked on the sounds and beats.

He is the one who should have received the credits and earned that nomination.

But normally, when they give you these forms to fill, all they ask is, ‘who is the producer’, without explaining if they mean Executive Producer or Technical Producer. So since they want to award the Technical Producer, they should be specific and not just ask who the producer is.

When that happens, we would give details of the Executive Producer because the Technical Producer has been paid off and no longer owns the song.

Except that the person is the one who should pick an award for the technical part of the song.

Could it be elite or non-elite artiste of the year?
